Warning! This post has little to nothing to do with WoW, so if you don’t give a rats’s ass about my life outside WoW… keep moving, buster! If you are a bit of a voyeur, or just really like me for some odd reason… or actually know me… well, read on past the break.

And now, the IRL update:
I was going to Scottsdale Culinary Institute, majoring in Pastry and Baking, living off of student loans. About the time I met my wife, I realized that this was NOT the career path for me; but I didn’t really do anything about it until the school started screwing things up royally.
You see, I withdrew from the class I was in prior to the leave of absence I was going to be taking; their policy was that I could not miss more than 30 days in a row, or they would automatically expel me. Well, they said that if I withdrew when I did, then missed the 3-week course I was taking off to get married, I’d be OK so long as I didn’t miss the first day of class back.
Then, when I got back and checked my schedule to see what class I was supposed to be showing up to… and they’d failed to schedule me for a class. Yay!
Well, after calling them, they managed to schedule me for a class, and I guess showing up day 2 would keep me from expulsion… Only, when I show up, the chef tells me that I’ll have to talk to them about it, because his class is over-full so he’s kicking me out, since I was the last person to register.
Nice.
So I chat with the student services/registrar folks and… they can’t get me into class for another 4 weeks. So, because THEY screwed up, I have to write a letter begging their LOA board to let me have leave, so I don’t get expelled.
THIS was their mistake. Ya see, before this, i’d always been so busy that I never took the time to think about just WHY my grades were steadily dropping.
I’d had a 4.0 for the first few semesters; but then, those had all been low-level classes and academics. Once we started working at an industry pace… I couldn’t keep up. I didnt’ WANT to keep up. Cooking was FUN, not a chore… but it was quickly transforming.
Anyway; during my forced time away from school, I had a LOT of time to think… and I realized that I had been wrong when I thought that I’d love to cook for a living… cooking as a job is WORK, not fun. I want cooking to always be fun.Anyhoo; yeah. Dropped out, and suddenly was out of money. My wife had gotten a job, but I don’t want to be a “house husband,” and nor does she… plus, her income couldn’t cover our bills. Rent was CLOSE, and the rest of the bills got a little thrown at them here and there, but never really got paid.

Well; I’ve finally gotten a job. A job with full-on, excellent benefits. More than the standards, too. I have health, dental, vision, 401k, and hosting. Yup; I’m working for the third largest hosting company on Earth, and one of the benefits is their pro hosting plan. That’s why you can see this site, in fact… heh.

Aaaanyhoo; yeah, now we’re playing catch-up on all those bills. Once we’ve paid off the Cable bill, and gotten it turned back on, and I’m no longer leeching off of an open access point in my complex, we’ll look at getting back into WoW… but that could well be a couple of months off, still. We hope that it’ll be sooner, though.
