Private Servers. O.O

Today, I’m going to be talking about an acquaintance of mine. Not a friend. Not even a good friend. I have little to no association with him, Blizz, so there’s no reason to ban ME for HIS indiscretions.
Anyway; enough CYA-
This friend of mine has started *gasp* playing on a private server.
I know, I know- if he gets caught.. nay, WHEN he gets caught, he’s forfeiting his WoW account. But he doesn’t have the ability to pay for WoW right now, and he’s feeling the need to give the private servers a shot…
Well; here’s what I’ve learned from him so far-
They’re both a hoot, and a massive pain in the butt. See, they don’t just have cloned WoW servers; they also have servers where they’ve modified the drop rate/EXP rate/etc.
Apparantly, on the server he’s been playing on, there’s a 14x boost to all that- so he levelled to 3 on his first kill, and to 7 when he turned in the first NElf “talk to that person 50 feet away” quest…
Sounds fun… but the problem is, you never really complete enough quests to get the cash to level, or get any gear, etc.- granted, you have a 14x drop rate, too, so you could theoretically get what you need that way… but yeah.
Instead, the recommendation of all the other players on the server? Go farm humanoid kills for the 14X cash drops… >.<

Yeah… doesn’t exactly sound appealing to me; even if I can’t get to WoW right now (my wife and I are in a wee little bit of debt, and I was unemployed for a while; I’m finally back in the saddle, and hopefully we’ll be able to get online and back in WoW before 2.4 hits…
Eh; more on that in a separate post. This is supposed to be a post about the Private servers.

My verdict, based on hearsay and looking over his shoulder? Meh; if I was lifetime-banned from WoW for some insane reason, I’d play on ‘em… but otherwise… thanks, but no thanks.
